1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
You may just have begun your Christian life or you are practically a young
man in the midst of much older people. What God wants you to know is that you can still be an example to other believers in spite of your youthfulness. Age is not a hindrance to godly living. As a youth, you can avoid talking carelessly or creating rancour in the environment. People will notice your maturity and want to emulate you.
This reminds me of a story. There was a woman that always cut off this protruded part of the chicken and throws it away. One day, a lady who had been observing this asked to know why. By her own judgment, that part being cut off was a good part and very delicious to eat. The woman laughed and said, “That is how I saw my mother do it.” The lady asked, “You didn't ask your mother why she did it?” Her response was, “I saw her doing it and I too cut it off whenever I am cooking chicken.”
Then one day, the lady approached the woman's mother and asked, “Mama, your daughter said she learnt something from you. She said that you always cut off this part of the chicken before cooking. What is your reason? ”The grandma laughed and replied, “That was how I saw my mother doing it. ”From this story, you can see how people observe the things you do and emulate you. If there was an opportunity to get her grandmother, the story would have been the same.
Let people see you doing something they can follow. Good things, righteous character, cultured speech, good mannerism will be spreading and people will be blessed with it. “Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” The way you live your life will influence others and promote righteousness in charity, Christian love, friendliness and gentleness.
People will learn and take it to others. Let people learn from you in fervency of life, in your approach to God, in your devotional life. Be an example to them in unwavering faith in times of adversity. Through you they will believe God. They will stop worrying over little, little things. Teach your children how to believe in God. Teach the church, teach the family, practice it. May the Lord make you a shining example in this dark world. Amen!
