Revelation 20: 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.
The first resurrection is termed the resurrection to life eternal while the second resurrection is termed the resurrection to eternal damnation. The first resurrection is in five stages:
(i) The resurrection of Christ the first fruit of the resurrection
ii) The resurrection of the Church age saints
(iii) The resurrection of the two witnesses
(iv) The resurrection of the tribulation saints
(v) The resurrection of the Old Testament saints.
The first resurrection is made up of five different phases, but the second resurrection is just one resurrection. The first stage of the first resurrection began with the resurrection of Christ. It shall be followed by the resurrection of the church age saints who believed in Christ and died as righteous people.
Therefore, the resurrection of the believers in Christ at the Rapture is the second stage of the first resurrection. The third stage of the first resurrection is the resurrection of the two witnesses at the end of the great tribulation. The two witnesses will resurrect, and a voice from heaven will say, “Come up hither” (Revelation 11:12).
Then they will ascend into heaven in a wonderful and glorious manner while their enemies behold. The fourth stage of the first resurrection is the resurrection of the Tribulation saints. At the end of the tribulation, these tribulation saints shall resurrect and meet with Jesus in heaven and shall return with Him at His second coming physically to the earth.
The fifth stage of the first resurrection concerns the Old Testament saints, who died before Jesus was born into the world. Their souls are in heaven. They shall resurrect and come back with Jesus to the earth, because God would have concluded His program of the 70th week, which is the seven years of the Great Tribulation.
With the resurrection of the Old Testament saints, Jesus will continue His program with Israel to rule as the son of David over the kingdom of David.
