TEXT: MATTHEW 19:5-6
(5) And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
(6) Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
The wedding is the solemnization of the marital union between the two unmarried persons, a man and a woman by an approved minister of God before a congregation. Only after this are they considered husband and wife with the right to the marital bed. If you and your spouse decide for wedding in the church, then it is expected that you are husband and wife only after the church wedding. It is only after this ceremony that both of you will have rights to your bodies. However if you have made yourselves husband and wife already, then the wedding solemnization in the church is a mockery to God. However, if you and your wife resolved to end it in traditional marriage, after your dowry payment the church wedding will not be required anymore. That is alright. Ensure you do that with the full consent of the Church.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
I am seeing strange things going on in some denominational churches these days where long married couples are either resorting to church weddings or are rededicating their marriages to God in churches. These days you will still hear couples who had long been grandparents inviting special guests to attend their church weddings. These people have no job to do. Was there a wedding between Abraham and Sarah? Then why do they emphasize on wedding? Some churches now make wedding part of the criteria for holding church positions and taking communion. Do not be deceived by these churches of ‘first touch’.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is not wedding that matters but marrying in God’s will.
SONG FOR THE DAY: Heavenly Father, Thy will be done…
