TEXT: 1 Peter 5:5-6
KEY VERSE: Ephesians 5:21 - Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Submission is a virtue, not a weakness. Don't be proud. Don't look down on anybody. Don't behave like Aaron and Mariam who contended against the leadership of Moses. Don’t be like Korah, Dathan, Abiram and On who contended against the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
The Bible says in Hebrews 13:17, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” God chose to place leaders above you before you were created. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
When you contend against leaders that God has placed over you, you are contending against God and you will not be guiltless. Consider how the ground swallowed up Korah and his co-travelers in the voyage of rebellion. Consider how Miriam became leprous for challenging the authority of Moses. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 - And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
Don't bring judgment upon your life. Don't frustrate your Christian life. Let your leaders rejoice over you. Let them derive joy and comfort from their labour over your life. Submit to whoever God has placed above you whatever you may be. Soldiers salute those in higher rank. A father brought his son into the army, but the son rose above him because he was more educated. When he met his son, he saluted him, but the son protested. The father said, “No son, that is how it is done here. Forget the fact that I am your father. It is the rule and I'm used to it.”
Shimei was punished for insulting David, the anointed of God. Submit your reports to higher authority for that is part of submission. Are you doing your assignments? That's part of submission. Do so in the fear of God for angels keep record over your life. That is why the books were opened.
Thought for the day: Submit to your leaders.
Song for the day: ….Give me grace, grace oh Lord…..give me grace to live a perfect life
Bible reading for the day: Proverbs 5-6; 1 Corinthians 14:1-20
