TEXT: PSALM 101:1-8 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.
2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.
5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord.
Key Verse: Psalm 101:1
I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto Thee, O Lord, will I sing.”
This was the commitment and resolution of King David, the righteous leader of God's people. It was the resolution of that godly king David, but it is the standard that Jesus the Bishop of our souls, the captain of our salvation, the Shepherd of the sheep has as the One who is leading the flocks Himself. This must be the standard every true and righteous leader must have. The Psalmist praised God both for His
mercy and judgment. We must see God both in His mercy and judgment. We must see God in His goodness and His severity; in His kindness and in His punishment; in His salvation and in His condemnation. In His quickening people back to life and in His destroying people forever. I want you to see God in these two respects: Mercy and Judgment. Thus, in the service of God, you need to see Him in these two aspects.
We speak often of His grace, kindness, love, and forgiveness. All things will work for your good, surely God will show you kindness, God will forgive your sins; but see God also as, God the judge. He that judged Satan and the angels that followed him, will He not judge you? How many sins did Satan commit in heaven that warranted this everlasting curse upon him? Remember the position of Satan, he was an arch angel and covering cherub.
Remember the beauty of Satan and the service he rendered to God. Have you done one percent of all the works Satan did when he was Lucifer in heaven, serving God? But the judgment went forth against him and removed him from heaven. He was cast down to the earth, to the sides of the pit and have his dwelling in hell. See, God as a great Judge, the Judge of all the earth, the One that judges in righteousness.
Thought for the day:
God is God of mercy and God of judgment.
Song for the day:
For this God is our God, for ever and ever
Bible reading for the day:
