TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Key Verse: Leviticus 20:7, 8. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.
Sanctification and heart purity is one of the doctrines that Jesus commanded His disciples to teach but many are either not aware of this doctrine or are deliberately unwilling to believe it, talk more of teaching it. Others contend against the meaning of sanctification. Sanctification is the second definite experience of grace subsequent to salvation whereby a believer's heart is made free from sin. John Wesley of blessed memory was a pioneer in the doctrine of sanctification. He brought it out in the 17th century. All holiness churches down the ages have taught and
experienced this definite work of grace.
Sanctification has to do with cleansing of the soul of man from sin and all kinds of impurities. Our key verse says, “Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.” For a soul to be sanctified there is need for dual commitment to the exercise. God has His part to play and man has his part to play. It requires man's action and God's stamp of approval. If you do your part of purging self from sin, God does His part of giving you the experience of sanctification. It is like salvation that you have to do your part of believing while the Lord saves. Both God and man share responsibility in the cleansing called sanctification. The sinful nature inherited from Adam that makes for malice and wickedness has to be handled.
In Acts 15:8-9 and Matthew 5:8, we understand that sanctification deals with the heart to purify it from sin to enable righteousness and holiness. In this state you can freely express Christian virtues in Galatians 5:22-23. To receive sanctification, the following are necessary; knowledge of truth, faith in God, cooperation with God for self-cleansing. Make efforts to be at peace, pay debts, forgive and stay free from sin. Ask Jesus to sanctify you. Sanctification and heart purity is for holy living. Get sanctified and you can live with the experience for life like Apostle Paul in Acts 24:16
