Revelation 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot
The Laodicean Church was a Church of Christ running under a minister like any of our local denominational Churches or fellowship groups today. God spoke about this Laodicean church in today's reading text saying, “Thou art neither cold nor hot.” The Church was there quite all right and you could hear the noise but that was all to it.
This thing is a matter of the heart, not a matter of the eye. If a fat man dies, his dead body will still be looking fat. If he was fair complexioned; his face will still be looking light. But the doctors have instruments to check the heart condition and confirm whether this man looking nicely dressed is dead or alive.
In the same manner, God can assess and confirm the spiritual state of a church – whether dead or alive! He assessed this Laodicean Church and said, “you are neither hot nor cold, you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of My mouth; you cannot stay in My mouth.”
Again He said in verse 17, “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing.” Now pride has set in. They say of themselves that they are rich and making progress. In fact, they say they have need of nothing!
They didn't need help; they would not want any preacher to come in there because they don't need his message of holiness; they would not want interference from any quarters! They are saying, “We are full, we are complete, we have preachers, we have theological college, we have high capacity auditorium; we have this, we have that, we have all, we are complete!
These are the things they are saying to themselves, but is God saying the same thing about them? These are the things you are saying about these “great” churches, but is God saying the same thing? You have been praising the denominational Church you attend and your pastor there, is God agreeing with you?
Human judgement is different from divine judgement. They call themselves wealthy and prosperous in everything and that they had need of nothing, but God saw them differently: wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked! (Revelation 3:18).
Don't get carried away by air-conditioned mega cathedrals with marbled floors or huge congregations running five or six services on a Sunday morning. Those are not the yardstick of measuring God's approval or His presence in a Christian assembly.
Thought for the day:
Big assembly does not make big presence of God.
Song for the day:
Send down revival to Thy church today……
Bible reading for the day:
Joshua 11-13; Luke 4:1-32
