Acts 8:9 - But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one.
Some people may want to ask why we say the misuse of anointing oil, holy water, miracle aprons and handkerchiefs etcetera are not of God. Are these things not working miracles? Indeed, they can do miracles because it is not only God that perform miracles. In today’s reading text, we see that when God sent Moses to Egypt and asked him to throw his rod down to become a serpent, the magicians of Pharaoh also did the same. So, the fact that these waters, handkerchiefs, aprons etcetera are working miracles for you does not mean that they are from God.
It depends on which spirit is working the miracles. Is it the spirit of Christ or the devil? If it is of Christ, it should be based on scripture. It is possible that such peculiar miracles may manifest occasionally and that is the end. It will not be a permanent doctrine in the church. But now, that it has come to stay and it is moving from church to church. It is of the devil. For those practicing it, the devil might be the one performing the miracles under your ministry.
The Lord asked Moses to speak to the rock, but he struck it. Moses sinned and missed the Promised Land, but water still came out for the people to drink. Now that you are leading your congregation away from faith and going to miracle substances, they can get healed but you will all miss the Promised Land. Let these things vanish from your church. Destroy them, for they are bottles of sin. I read in one of the Christian magazines about somebody who repented from an occultic church and made a confession.
He said that their General Overseer usually distributes anointing oil on the last Saturday of every month and that these ministers go to a particular hotel to purchase the bottle for N50,000. When they returned to their base, they in turn put drops into bottles for people for their miracle. When we went to Jerusalem, they were selling one they called pure anointing oil from the holy land. Do residents of Jerusalem believe in Jesus? Why then do people think that things that come from there will be superior? It is devil’s business. May the Lord deliver His church from last day corruption, and protect the remnant, and make them pure for His own glory in Jesus name.
Thought for the day:
Not every miracle is from God. Satan also performs miracles. Beware!
Song for the day:
When Jesus comes, where will you be, when the trumpet sounds, where will….
Bible reading for the day:
Isaiah 10-12; Galatians 5
