TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 11: 13-16
13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
Key verse: 1 Corinthians 11: 13 “Judge in yourselves, is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?”
Question: I permed my hair when I was an unbeliever. Can I cut it off with razor or
scissors for natural hair to grow and replace it?
Answer: Now as regards whether women can cut their hair, the bible says the long
hair is the glory to the woman. So, as we see in nature, if a woman cuts her hair and
starts looking like a man, she loses the glory of a woman. Well, there is nothing
wrong if a woman cuts her permed hair for natural growth but she should have it
covered. If you have your hair covered where you are sitting, I wouldn’t know
whether you cut it or not. You still maintain your glory because you have it properly
covered but to leave your cut hair open in the street, you have lost your glory. The long hair is a glory to the woman.
Question: I usually cover my hair everywhere I go. Some say that it is not holiness
because air does not enter my hair; that even when I plait it, I should open my hair
and only cover it in the church. Sir, is it right?
Answer: A woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered, dishonors her
head. If a woman will not cover her head while praying or prophesying, let her shave
her hair; the emphasis here is during worship. Prayer is in the church service; My
house shall be called the house of prayer. So, when you are praying, have something
to cover your hair as a woman as you are covered now. Those people who don’t
cover their head are disobedient to the word of God and they are not going to heaven
because the disobedient don’t go to heaven. So, you cover your head when you are
in worship. You cover your head when you are praying even at home but aside from
this you have liberty to do what you want to do. Either to cover your head or leave
it open because there is no rule of God guiding that. Do you want to have it covered
all the time; choose; but I think the medical people should advise you about that.
