TEXT: JAMES 5:15-18
(15) And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
(16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
(17) Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
(18) And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
KEY VERSE: COLOSSIANS 4:12
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in will of God.
To be fervent means that we should be serious and earnest in prayer; not just repeating some memorized prayer. It is to have great intensity of spirit, feeling and enthusiasm about what we are talking to God about. When you see the Word laboring, you think of work, someone putting forth tremendous effort. Epaphras is laboring fervently for you in prayers. He is working hard to make sure that the brethren stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. He is fervently taking on praying for the Church so that this body of Believers becomes a Church without spot or wrinkle and filled with all the will of God, to perform the will of God.
Epaphras was not just laboring but he was laboring fervently in prayers! One who is just lazily moving his lips in whispers cannot be said to be laboring. That means when Epaphras was praying one could see his body vibrating because he was laboring fervently. This was the same kind of prayers that gave Hannah answer to her request. When she prayed, though her voice was not heard, her lips were moving with deep emotions and heaviness of heart to the point that Eli thought she was drunk. When one is laboring, although he may be praying silently, you will see the consecration, the vibration, and you will know that something is going on. The angels are watching and observing as the place shakes. When a machine is shaking, you know it is working. You cannot be laboring fervently and be motionless.
Let us pray with a military attitude and be active. Let us also maintain our righteousness and holiness, as Elijah did because the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man, availeth much (James 5:16).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Let us pray with a military attitude and be active.
