TEXT: HOSEA 2:5-13 (Please refer to your KJV Bible for scripture reference)
KEY VERSE: JEREMIAH 4:30
And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.
In the Bible days, jewelry was seen to promote charming beauty and it is the dressing of harlots. They used jewelries and make up to make themselves beautiful and to sell themselves out in immorality to men. In our text today, it shows clearly that the woman referred to in this place played harlotry. The items she used to beautify herself for her immoral lovers included earrings and other items of jewelry. Israel was pictured here as a harlot.
The key verse today pictures a harlot who made herself beautiful and attractive to her lovers. The things done to achieve her purpose were “clothing herself with crimson, deck up herself with ornaments of gold” (jewelry) and “renting her face with painting” (make up). To keep to the law of decency and holiness, believing women should avoid those things in their dressing. They belong to harlots.
Even the natural sense of a decent woman will teach that those materials are not godly. Over time in the Christian journey, women who are strongly devoted to the service of God would not put on jewelries. They yielded themselves totally to God in complete purity and godly life.
Do not be among the multitude of women who claim to be spiritual who often claim that they hear from God themselves and that if God wants them to remove their jewelries, He would have told them. No man can compel God on how He would speak to man. He can decide to use any means. This channel (devotional of today) is one of them. Obey God’s voice today!
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Every property of harlotry defiles the candidates of Heaven.
SONG FOR THE DAY: Make me holy (3x) O Lord…
