TEXT: 1PETER 1:3-7
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Key verse: 2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
God does not want us to be baby Christians; to be Christians today and tomorrow we are no more. That is why He is telling us the truth and teaching us hard doctrines of Christianity so we can exercise our hearts for this race and be determined to live it to the end; so that we can work for God not minding the pain or suffering because it is required for the work. We give glory to God for teaching us His word; the word of truth; the word of eternal life. Babies are the ones who cry over everything. If they want to eat, they cry. If they want to sleep, they cry. If their nappy is wet, they cry. Adults behave differently. They endure as a sign of maturity. That is how God wants you to live your Christian life. Not to murmur and grumble over everything. Learn to bear and suffer for the sake of Christ. God is proving your faith. The cross must come before the crown. Take a cue from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ and be peaceful even in the face of suffering. Carry your cross and follow Jesus.
In Isaiah 53, we see a prophetic message concerning our Lord Jesus Christ, even before He was born into the world. The prophecy was given more than 700 years before Jesus was born into the world. The prophecy was telling us the life He would live and the nature of His ministry. It is the life of the cross, the ministry that had to do with the cross. The cross as we see in the scripture took a central place in the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus came for it, lived daily by it, accomplished His work on it and ascended to the highest place in the universe (heaven) after it. The bible described Him as a man of sorrow acquainted with grief, despised and rejected of men and we hid as it were our faces from Him. Let the life of Jesus on earth be an example for you. In spite of His maltreatment by men He came to save, He was not discouraged in His earthly mission.
Thought for the day: The cross must come before the crown.
Song for the day: I have made up my mind to serve the Lord in holiness….
Bible reading for the day: Psalm 70-72; Romans 4
