TEXT: Mark 16:15-18; 1 Cor 11:23-30.
Key verse: Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
The great commission is incumbent upon all believers. The Lord expects all His children to be fruitful, not only in the Christian fruit of righteousness and holiness, also in the fruit of evangelism and soul-winning.
Believers are to avail themselves in all kinds of soul-winning, supply the resources required for effective soul winning, sponsor preachers, produce materials for soul winning. Pray earnestly for the salvation of sinners and the preservation of saints.
Apart from going out to make disciples for Jesus Christ, we must ensure that believers are taught the truths penned down in scripture. It is knowledge of biblical truth and will produce righteousness and true holiness required for heaven. The knowledge of truth will free them from satanic wiles and make them enjoy the full blessings of Christianity.
The Holy Communion, also called the Lord's Supper is a rite or ordinance that Jesus instituted for His followers to be observed often in remembrance of His sacrificial death for them until He returns to rapture the saints. That this rite was taken in the evening does not mean it must only be taken in the evening.
What is significant here is the memory it communicates to the Church concerning the sacrificial death of Jesus anytime it is taken. The Lord's further revelation to apostle Paul confirms the observance of this rite in the Church. The following are stated in Paul's presentation:
(i) The bread represented the body,
(ii) The wine (non-alcoholic) represented the blood.
(iii) The taking of those two items is in remembrance of Jesus' death till He returns.
(iv) This rite is to be observed often by the Church.
(v) The partaker must ensure there is no unconfessed, unrepented sin in his life. Self-examination is required.
(vi) It is dangerous for sinners who partake of this rite in their sins and wickedness.
(vii) Judgment follows those who stubbornly take these substances in sin.
Thought for the day:
Holy Communion is an observance which all believers must partake until Christ comes.
