TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 1:1-4
1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: 2Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.3Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it”
God wants to know those who will serve him unconditionally. He is looking for someone to reward or present before Satan as His and that nothing will take him away from Him. The person who will eventually be with Him must not easily be shaken. Job was tried and rewarded. Daniel and the three Hebrews children were also tried and rewarded. Jesus in the flesh was tried and was exalted, given a name that is above every other name and is now seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven; and Stephen was tried and rewarded with heaven. In their temptations, they depended on God.
God wants to make us depend on Him as our comforter. To be a comforter is to stand beside a person encouraging and helping him in times of trouble. He allows little troubles in our lives to achieve the followings: To teach us lessons so we will be able to comfort others. 2 Corinthians 1:1-4. To enable us share with Christ His suffering on the cross without complain: Christian life includes suffering, exemplified by the life of Paul the apostle who went through much suffering and testified same to the people of Rome: Roman 8:35-39. To learn to depend on Jesus in every circumstance 2 Corinthians 7:5-7, 10. To understand that our suffering is not always the result of our sins but often the results of Satan’s work and the world’s opposition to Jesus and His followers.
It is the test to know those who will endure or qualify to be taken to be with Him in heaven. It also provides privileges for testimonies of the power and works of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul’s encounter with the Lord and suffering is a good example of the power and works of God Acts 26:18.
Thought for the day: In every circumstance, depend on God our comforter.
Song for the day: Dependable God, dependable God (2x) …
Bible reading for the day: Job 23-25; Acts 10:24-48
