TEXT: MATTHEW 19: 4-6
(4) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
(5) And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
(6) Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Marriage was the first institution made by God after the creation of Adam and Eve. God made the woman for the man and joined them together. It was God that joined them together and united them together and said that union should not be tampered with. Let no man put asunder that which God has united. Marriage is honorable before God. The time and place where their marriage occurred show how honorable it was. It took place before the fall. Before sin came into their lives, there was marriage. What an honorable thing! Before Satan came to pollute the world, there was marriage and family life. So, it is a thing so great that God will want all of us to honor. The marriage of Adam and Eve was holy before the fall of man.
Now, Jesus also honored marriage. You will see that He illustrated this in a parable that talked about a wedding feast that people normally attend in those days. People that attend wedding feasts usually wore special attires because they were specially invited and given uniform. So, Jesus was illustrating that marriage was something central in the heart of God. Now even when Jesus was on earth, He attended a marriage feast. Jesus and His disciples were invited to the marriage and He came there. The God of heaven created marriage at the beginning. Being in the form of God, He instituted marriage. Now God became man and went to a marriage feast. The place of marriage in the heart of God is central and a marriage feast therefore, is for the glory of Jesus.
In the marriage feast in Cana of Galilee, Jesus manifested His glory. He went to that wedding and was glorified there. Our marriages should glorify Jesus. Our marriages should be a setting for God's glory to be manifested. Have it in your mind, if you are not yet married. See that God is glorified in your marriage from the beginning to the end of it, and this can be done when there is righteousness and holiness in all facets.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The place of marriage in the heart of God is central.
