TEXT: Genesis 39:7-20
KEY VERSE: Proverbs 18:13 - He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
In today’s reading text, we see how Joseph was lied against and unjustifiably punished for an offence he did not commit, just because his master only heard one side of the story. Learn this wisdom that when you hear a matter you will control yourself because you have not really heard the full detail. It is the other side of the mater that will reveal the full picture and give you a perfect understanding of the matter, because the sword is double-edged. You have seen with one edge; you also need to see the other.
In this way, you will know within yourself that all you are hearing, all the person is saying to you with all seriousness, persuasion and conviction is only fifty percent of the matter. You cannot take decision on fifty percent until you hear the other fifty percent. It is only then you will be able to know clearly where the fault is. You will then know who to blame and who to exonerate from blame. In most cases, doctors will not give treatment until they have run a test. This is to enable them to identify with certainty the cause of the ailment. That is why you should learn this and protect yourself.
If you don’t control yourself, you will speak like David. Nathan came to David and narrated a story to him. He said, there was a man that had only one sheep and this sheep was like a daughter to him. He loved the sheep so much that they slept together and ate together. Now, there was a man that had a large flock and when he had a visitor, he went and picked the only sheep owned by this man and killed it to serve his guest.
Before the prophet finished speaking, David was so angry that he gave double judgment and the two judgments were wrong! First, he said, the man that has done this thing must die as surely as he lived. Second, he said the man must pay fourfold. When the man has died how will he pay fourfold? He spoke that way because he was too emotional. Don’t get that emotional when your brother or sister comes and begins to narrate his/her own side of the story. Don’t start cursing and judging the people wrongly thereby getting your name removed from the book of life.
Thought for the day: Diligently inquire into matters to know the whole truth before judging.
Song for the day: Who has the final say……
Bible reading for the day: Proverbs 1-2; 1 Corinthians 12
