TEXT: JOHN 4: 13-19
13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 15The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. 16Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Key verse: John 4:26 “Jesus saith unto her; I that speak unto thee am He.”
Question: A man got married but after two years the lady left him and got married
to somebody else. The man also got married to somebody else. After four years he
separated from the second lady. Afterwards, he came in contact with holiness and
began his restitution. He went to look for the first wife and discovered that she died
four years back. Later, the brother got married again in holiness to somebody else.
Should he have married the second woman who is an unbeliever?
Answer: He married his wife and separated from her then married another lady and
also separated from her. The first woman got married to another man but died later.
The man repented and decided to do restitution. The second woman left because she
was not a wife, so the man is free. Suppose the woman was still there when the first
wife died? You will then take note that the second woman has never been a wife
from the beginning until the first woman died. If the man knows that the first woman
has died and realized that he had been staying with a harlot, he has to decide whether
she becomes a wife or to release her to go her way. Now that the original wife has
died, he can decide to marry the second one but they have already separated.
Yes, he can take that decision if they were still together. If he does not take a decision
despite his knowledge and allows that relationship to continue, silence means
acceptance. He has accepted to marry her; his silence is a decision taken, so she
automatically becomes his wife. He cannot send her away again but if at the time he
had an opportunity to make a decision, he took a decision not to marry her because
it was not a good relationship and the woman was still an unbeliever, he can decide
to marry another woman. Of course, he is free to marry another one now that he has
discovered that his wife has died, he can marry another person after praying through
to know the will of God since he is now a believer.
Thought for the day: Marriage is honourable in all and the bed undefiled
Song for the day: My wife shall be a blessing, my children around my table…
Bible reading for the day: Psalm 56-58; Acts 28:1-15
