TEXT: ACTS 14:20-23
(20) Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
(21) And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
(22) Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
(23) And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
KEY VERSE: COLOSSIANS 1:23
If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, [and] which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
To continue in faith is a commission and expectation of every Believer. Believers should continue in faith, so that they are grounded, settled and established; and this should be the pattern of their journey until they come to the end of their faith. Faith should not stop; it is utmost and paramount that every Believer continues to the end, because that is where salvation is secured.
1 Peter 1:9
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The prophets and apostles knew the importance of continuing in faith. Elijah’s mantle was passed to Elisha for faith to continue. The apostle Paul in his missionary journeys made a practice of going back to visit the Believers, confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in faith. Peter also exhorted the brethren to add to their faith, virtue… (2 Peter 1: 5).
Adding to our faith and continuing in faith is a daily exercise of the Believer that wants to see the successful end of their faith. It involves continuing in prayer, continuing in brotherly love, continuing with the Word of God, continuing in the apostle’s doctrine and continuing in one accord. We should not be continuing in sin, but in faith. What shall we say then, should we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid (Romans 6:1). Let us continue in faith and be steadfast unto the end.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Continue to the end and you shall wear the crown of life.
SONG FOR THE DAY: Continue, Jesus says continue, I am coming very soon…
