TEXT: 1 JOHN 2:15-17
5Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Key verse: James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
As a child of God, you must not desire or copy the things of the world. The world
has its pattern and mannerism of life. The Christian is different. The Christian life is
strange and odd to the world. 1 Peter 4:4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run
not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you. In their lifestyles, the
world and Christians do not conform together.
Romans 12: 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God.
Believers must follow the holiness pattern of life as Christ lived, which was visible
to all men. You are called a Christian because you are like Christ (Christ-like). In
our day, wedding programs have been turned into a theatre of lasciviousness, even
in the Church. Brides and their maids dress typically like harlots exposing very
sensitive parts of their body without any iota of shame. The shamefacedness
expected of a Christian woman is no longer there.
A Christian wedding must be devoid of the flamboyance, extravagance and vanity
of the world. From the wedding gown to conduct of wedding proper and reception,
there must be holiness. The wedding gown and those of the bridesmaids must not be
tight-fitted or body-exposing. There should be no paintings, jewelries and any kind
of adornment, but clean and simple dressing that is befitting of a child of God. At
the reception, there must not be worldly music or dances. Everything must be done
decently and in order to the glory of God.
Thought for the day: You cannot serve two masters.
Song for the day: This world is not my home, I am just passing through…..
Bible reading for the day: Proverbs 21-22; 2 Corinthians 4
