TEXT: TITUS 2: 11-15
KEY VERSE: Acts 18:25 “This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.”
True mentorship requires humility. One of the fundamental missing gaps today is the lack of humility displayed by Christian believers, which often hinders them to true mentorship in the gospel work. Many aren't willing to learn from the true ministers of the gospel. This has over the years become a sign of decay for the gospel work to this present day.
A story was told of a king who was very tough. He was tough to an extent that his servants found it practically difficult to correct him due to his pride. One day, he was having a running stomach while on his way to a meeting. He immediately used the toilet before going for the meeting but didn't know that his excreta had touched the back of his cloth.
His servant saw it but was too afraid to tell the king that his cloth is stained. The king was publicly told by his audience in the meeting that he has excreta on the back of his cloth. He felt very embarrassed. The servant would have informed him when he noticed it but was afraid to do so due to the arrogant temperament of the king.
From the story above, you have presumably learned not to assume knowing everything. You shouldn't be arrogant in a way that can prevent people from correcting you when you are wrong. Also, if you fail to adopt humility, people will leave you with your mistakes to the detriment of your well being. Apollos was a humble man and therefore, benefited in many ways from the fruit of his humility.
You may be a good product of Jesus, but there is still ignorance in your life. You may be preaching very well but still operating in ignorance. Some of these preachers just need a second touch from Jesus in order to be effective true preachers of the gospel. Paul was an effective true preacher and had a deep understanding of Christ.
