Isaiah 4:24: The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
Luke 1:26, 27 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
This text is a fulfilment of prophecies concerning the Messiah beginning from Genesis 3:15 which says, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” God had made a promise to Satan concerning the Seed of the woman that will destroy him.
To actualize this promise, the tribe of Judah was chosen.
Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah.
From the tribe of Judah king David was chosen. At the fullness of time, Joseph, a descendant of David, was chosen who was the husband of Mary, mother of Jesus.
Isaiah had prophesied, 13. “And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:13, 14).
At the time Joseph and Mary got engaged, they never knew they were fulfilling prophecy; neither did they know that the Messiah was coming through them. Both of them did not know their marital union was not a product of accident but a divine plan.
It is the same with all marriages that flow out of the will of God. Their cohabitation is a deliberate plan of God for a divine purpose. Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob, Leah and Rachael were all brought together as husband and wife to fulfil divine plan.
Even adulterous Bathsheba was chosen for David to serve a divine purpose, because it was through their relationship that the great king, Solomon, was to be born. May you fulfil divine purpose in your marriage in Jesus name.
Bible gives testimony concerning David in Act 13:36, “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep.” May the children of your union be children of promise like Isaac to fulfil divine purposes in Jesus name.
Thought for the day:
See your marriage as a divine plan and cooperate with God in its actualization.
Song for the day:
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah
Bible reading for the day:
Psalm 53-55; Acts 27:26-44.
