BY PASTOR PAUL RIKA (Int'l Director Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide) DATE: WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2019 TEXT: HEBREWS 7:1-10 KEY VERSE: Hebrews 7:17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek Not every Old Testament practice came by the law of Moses hence they cannot be abolished with the law of Moses. Prayer, love, kindness, righteous deeds, tithe payment, restitution etc. all existed before Moses and would continue as long as the world exists.
The only thing in the Old Testament that probably did not continue was sacrifice to God with burnt animals and this is because the Lord has provided Himself as a lamb for the burnt sacrifices; so all sacrifices finished in Him. All the animals they were burning were inferior but through Christ, the supreme sacrifice had been offered for mankind once-and-for-all, so nobody needed to sacrifice again. The acts of righteousness which had been done in the Old Testament continued after the law. It is only those additives that came up during the law as commandments that ended with Christ and never continued again. They all ended with the abolishment of the law because they came with the law. Some of such additives were on tithe payments, such as giving tithe to the poor and less privileged. Before the law, tithe belonged solely to God, “The tenth part of that which I earn I will give to You.” It is God's own portion and not to be given to human beings. Subsequently, the law also added another tithe for you to buy things and eat in Jerusalem during annual sacrifices. If you study it very well, you will understand that they are different from the main tithe. They are additional commandments and they ended with the law for Christ is the end of the law to everyone that believes. But the practice of payment of tithes continues up to this day because we have a High Priest who is after the order of Melchizedek; and where there is a priest, there must be the payment of tithe. When Melchizedek was discovered by Abraham, what did he do? He paid tithe to him. During the law, the Lord raised up a tribe of Levi where the priest could be found to receive tithes. In our days somebody has taken over the priesthood. He is our High Priest, Jesus Christ, to whom we must pay tithe. So, the payment of tithe unto the Lord is as applicable today as it was in time past. If not done, you are cursed with a curse as a thief because you are dishonoring the High Priesthood of Jesus. Thought for the day: Tithing is not an option. It is an irrevocable commandment. Song for the day: Give me the grace to follow Bible reading for the day: Ecclesiastes 4-6; 2 Corinthians 10 Leave a Reply. |
