1 John 5:10-13
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Many people misunderstand this term or the description given to Jesus as the Son of God. Some reject Him because of this title. The Islamic religion in particular contend against this title saying God cannot have a Son.
This has been an obstacle on the way of many because without believing this eternal truth, they cannot believe in Jesus And be saved. Even among Christians, many are still confused about this title but you need to understand clearly that while it is affirmed that we have one God, Jesus being the Son of God does not mean Jesus Himself is not God.
When the title “Son of God” is used with respect to Jesus, it does not connote the same meaning as children being born by human parents or by a man impregnating his wife.
This title specifically refers to one born, not by the will of man, but by the will of God. It is equally used of anyone who believes in Jesus Christ
who was not born through copulation or sexual union between a man and a woman. (John 1:12-13).
Rather, they were people God fashioned and bought for Himself.
Therefore, everyone that believes in Christ is an adopted son of God. Our sonship is adoption, which is quite unlike the status of Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God.
“Adopted” means our father was not originally God. You had a father, Satan, who was a chief sinner. Through his corruptive influence, sin entered your life. That was why you were a sinner. But when you believed in Christ, God by His mercy adopted you as His son. You received the Spirit of adoption giving you right to this one Father.
Now, you can call on the true God and serve Him. But, if you don't continue with Him in truth, righteousness and holiness, you will go back to your original father, Satan.
You had a father but God chose to pick you. If you fail to continue to comply with the conditions for your adoption, God will release you back to Satan.
