Hebrews 13:17 "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."
The whole body operates under the leadership of the head.
When we travel together in a bus, there must be a driver. Also, there must be obedience in Christian life to Christian leaders in small and great things and in simple and difficult things.
Do not challenge the authority of your leader for God has made him a pastor over you. If you say he is not fit to be your leader, then you too are not fit to be his sheep.
As Jesus said, if I don't wash your feet then you are not part of me.
1. Do as the Lord has directed.
Matthew 8:9 "For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it."
If people can obey authority in secular life how much more in the church?
2. Grant them the full right over your soul.
Hebrews 13:17 "Obey them that have the rule over you."
Your leader should know about every aspect of your life, even your business and travels. Do not say it doesn't concern him. It is his duty to watch over you, so submit to his scrutiny.
3. Accounting to them as to those that will account to God.
Did you fall? Don't keep it to yourself. Account to them for they watch over your soul.
4. Serve faithfully and satisfactorily for their joy.
Serve them so faithfully that they will be joyful to God for your commitment, availability and dedication to duty.
5. Avoid being a grief unto them.
Don't upset them. If it happens that at the time you are needed you are not always available, you have become a grief to them. If anytime you are given assignment you do it shoddily, you are a grief. If you are always causing division and sowing seeds of discord among the brethren, you are a grief.
6. Serve under them profitably.
If you serve well you too will gain wisdom, knowledge and skill as Timothy learned from Paul.
May the Lord grant you all grace for acceptable service in his house.
