TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 2:4-7
(4) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
(5) And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
(6) The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
(7) Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
KEY VERSE: 1CORINTHIANS 14:40
Let all things be done decently and in order.
God wants us to be orderly in our lives, homes, and worship places. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” As God is not the God of confusion but of peace and of order, so He wants us to be orderly. That is why God has given unto us leaders. These leaders are to order accordingly in the ways of God. Where there is disorderliness it shows there are no leaders or the leaders are not following the course of God.
In those days there was no King in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
Where every man did as he wanted to do it, the ways they wanted, it shows they are not under a leader. Anybody who wants to be left to his own ways is a backslider in the heart. For a backslider in the heart is filled with his own ways. If there is a leader over you, you should submit to the leadership.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for you souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
God sets leadership so that His flock will not be scattered. He sets leaders for decency and orderliness. This therefore demands of you that you submit under leadership. The issue of Scriptural discipline does not only talk of submission to the discipline of a Christian leader on you but it is a practice. You must work on yourself because it is required in Christian life. For you to live this life faithfully and make it to Heaven, you must inculcate personal discipline. This is the act of self-control; the act of personal orderliness.
