TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:9-12
(9) And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
(10) And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
(11) And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
(12) And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
KEY VERSE: GENESIS 5:24
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
The Rapture was a mystery, unknown to the Old Testament saints and prophets. God illustrated it in two persons in the scripture; Enoch and Elijah, to assure us of its certainty. They did not taste death but were translated and caught up in the air. The rapture will occur unannounced and it is very imminent. Sinners are to repent and accept Christ while Saints are to watch and pray to be ready. The translation of Enoch as seen in our key verse happened suddenly and unannounced. The passage in Genesis does not indicate that Enoch had prior knowledge of this event so as to prepare for it. Again, the translation of Elijah as seen in our text was announced; the period was known but the exact time, place and modalities were unannounced. However, there were people that witnessed it along with Elisha and many sons of the prophets.
We also saw the illustration of the rapture in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the New Testament. He died, was buried and resurrected. While He talked with His disciples on mount Olivet, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. This glorious event was witnessed by many disciples and apostles of the Lord. As in the earlier mentioned cases, they did not know the exact time the Lord would ascend to Heaven. These three examples clearly show that no man knows the exact time of the rapture and so must be holy and ready at all times.
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Time is running out; are you ready for the rapture?
SONG FOR THE DAY: On the last day (2x), only true believers shall be raptured.
BIBLE READING FOR THE DAY: Psalm 132-135; 1 Corinthians 8
