TEXT: Acts 2: 14-20
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
Key verse: Acts 2: 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Some denominations erroneously teach that all Christian workers must be baptized in the Holy Ghost before rendering any form of service in the church because the Bible says, wait in Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high? Proper study of the scriptures is required.
The disciples of Jesus Christ were Christian workers under His ministry although they were not baptized in the Holy Ghost. They were born again, had the word of God, the name of Jesus and by these they were able to go forth and preach the gospel, cast our devils and heal the sick. This they did although not yet baptized in the Holy Ghost.
Today, believers should go forth and serve the Lord as the early disciples did even when they were not baptized in the Holy Spirit. The phrase, “Tarry ye in Jerusalem until” does not refer to you because the Holy Spirit has already come down, and you have the Spirit of God, so what are you waiting for? Move and preach the gospel, the baptism shall meet you on the way as you pray fervently.
It is essential to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. If for instance you have a motor cycle and you are offered a vehicle will you not go for it? Can you compare a motor cycle with a vehicle? There is a greater glory, greater performance and greater manifestation when you are baptized in the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tongues.
Even the speaking in tongues itself is a great advantage to seek the baptism in the Holy Ghost because the tongues can be the language of angels. The language of tongues is a language of mystery. Praying in tongues gives spiritual edification. Speaking in tongues is also a ministry gift of the Holy Ghost just as the gift of prophecy if the tongues can be interpreted. There are treasures in Christianity waiting for you at the level of baptism with the Holy Spirit.
Thought for the day: It is essential to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.
