TEXT: 1TIMOTHY 4:13-16
(13) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
(14) Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
(15) Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
(16) Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
KEY VERSE: 1TIMOTHY 4:16
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Doctrines are teachings which are given and practiced among men in the society, or the Church of Christ. It is a set of teachings that are arranged and delivered to guide the society. You can call them the decrees and constitutions. Countries are guided by decrees and constitutions, but the Church is guided by doctrines; a set of teachings that are meant to work out righteousness and holiness, to qualify people for Heaven. That is why Paul said “take heed; be careful unto yourself and unto the doctrines. Continue in them and in doing this carry out the Word”. By the doctrines you will be able to save yourself and them that hear you.
Should we then put away the doctrines and come together as Christians? If every church forgets about Bible doctrines, then Christianity is forgotten. If they succeed in convincing you to put away your doctrines, they bring you to the point in which people live any how; like those who walk barefooted, who claim that that is how they were taught and that is what they believe. A meeting where women are in trousers, as well as people who are married to two or three wives, along with women in jewelries and people with charms is not a Christian meeting.
Take heed to yourself and to the doctrines which are the teachings of God and the set of principles delivered to the Church. Teach them and preach them. For in doing this, you will save yourself. Doctrines are meant for your salvation. For in doing this you will save them that hear you. Doctrines are meant to save the Church.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Teach your members all the Words of God; it’s only doctrines that can save them.
